Background
Dr Hannah Gregson is a research fellow working on a feasibility trial for an intervention called the Shared Safety Net Action Plan (SSNAP). SSNAP aims to help primary care clinicians work collaboratively with patients to diagnose cancer earlier, funded by the NIHR’s Research for Patient Benefit programme.
Hannah has a background in medical sociology, having completed an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Social Anthropology, and an MSc is Sociological Research Methods. Prior to joining the YQSR team, Hannah completed her PhD at the University of Manchester in 2024, where she used qualitative mixed methods to explore the patient experience of transvaginal mesh complications. Her thesis explores the patient experience of a lack of informed consent, delayed diagnosis, and the impact of long waiting times. Her research found that the medical harm experienced by her participants was often underpinned by gender biases embedded within healthcare systems.
Research interests
Hannah has a broad range of research interests, which she is keen to explore using qualitative methods such as interviews and creative methods. Areas of interest include health inequalities, iatrogenic harm, informed consent, delayed diagnosis, waiting times, defensive medicine, and the patient lived experience.
